Dear Chairman, | | I
wish to express my profound concern about Memorial, a cornerstone of
Russian civil society, which is under threat of liquidation on baseless
charges. In November 2021, prosecutors filed lawsuits demanding the
dissolution of Memorial’s two entities - International Memorial Society
and Memorial Human Rights Centre- for their “repeated failure” to
identify themselves publicly as a “foreign agents”. Memorial Human
Rights Centre is also accused of "justifying terrorism and extremism”. | | I call
on you to repeal the repressive “foreign agents” legislation which
stigmatises activism and is contrary to Russia’s international human
rights obligations. I further urge you to do everything in your power to
stop the prosecution of Memorial and to end harassment of and threats
to these and other civil society organisations. | | Thank you for your attention. |
