Activist vast voor online berichten   Op 9 september ondervroeg de politie in Casablanca mensenrechtenactivist Rida Benotmane over berichten die hij in 2021 op sociale media plaatste. Daarin waarschuwde hij onder meer voor het gebruik van coronapassen in Marokko als een instrument van repressie. Sindsdien zit hij vast. Roep de autoriteiten van Marokko op om Rida Benotmane onmiddellijk vrij te laten. Benotmane is politiek activist en lid van een Marokkaanse mensenrechtenorganisatie. Hij zat eerder 4 jaar gevangen omdat hij zich online kritisch uitliet over de regering.   Teken de petitie

Your Excellency,

I am writing to express concern over the arbitrary detention of human rights defender Rida Benotmane. On 9 September 2022, the Casablanca judicial police interrogated Benotmane over several social media posts and YouTube videos he released in 2021. He was arrested and is being detained merely for exercising his right to freedom of expression.

Therefore, I urge you to ensure that Rida Benotmane is immediately and unconditionally released, and that all charges against him are dropped. I also urge you to ensure the amendment or repeal of all laws which punish the peaceful exercise of freedom of expression, including Articles 263 and 265 of the Penal Code.
