Activist al 11 jaar onterecht vast   Beste Brigittte, In het voorjaar van 2011 pakten gemaskerde veiligheidsagenten de Bahreinse activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja met geweld op. Hij werd tot levenslang veroordeeld simpelweg omdat hij deelnam aan vreedzame protesten tegen de regering. Hij liep ernstige verwondingen op bij zijn arrestatie. Hij kampt hierdoor met gezondheidsklachten. Maar hij krijgt niet de medische zorg die hij nodig heeft. Roep de koning van Bahrein op om Abdulhadi al-Khawaja onmiddellijk vrij te laten. Agenten sloegen Al-Khawaja zo hard dat zijn kaak brak. Hij heeft meer dan 20 platen en schroeven in zijn gezicht en dreigt blind te worden vanwege oogletsel. Ook doorstond hij vele martelingen in de gevangenis. Hij lijdt aan chronische pijn.   Teken de petitie

Your Majesty,

I wish to express my concern about the continued detention and health of human rights defender Abdulhadi Abdulla Hubail al-Khawaja. The dual Bahraini-Danish citizen is serving a life sentence after an unfair trial for his peaceful human rights activities.

Al-Khawaja has faced ill-treatment and torture during his arrest and subsequent arbitrary detention. His health is deteriorating from multiple health conditions resulting from the severe physical, psychological and sexual torture he endured, as well as a serious lack of medical treatment provided by prison authorities.

In light of the above, I urge you to release him immediately and unconditionally. In addition, I call on you to launch an investigation into the alleged torture or other ill-treatment, to make its results public, and bring to justice anyone responsible.
