De Oeigoerse Buzaynap Abdureshit was onderweg naar haar zwangerschapscontrole toen ze hoorde dat de politie thuis op haar wachtte. Ze keerde om. Sinds die dag in maart 2017 heeft haar echtgenoot haar niet meer gezien of gesproken. Buzaynap is een van de naar schatting een miljoen moslims die China sinds 2017 willekeurig heeft opgesloten in heropvoedingskampen of gevangenissen in Xinjiang. Dit moet onmiddellijk stoppen. Roep de Chinese president Xi Jinping op de heropvoedingskampen onmiddellijk te sluiten en alle mensen die daar en in gevangenissen willekeurig zijn vastgezet, vrij te laten.  Buzaynap studeerde in Egypte en was van plan bij haar man in Australië te gaan wonen. Ze zouden samen een gezin starten. Wonen, studeren of zelfs maar contact hebben met vrienden of familie in het buitenland is al voldoende reden voor de Chinese overheid om Oeigoeren op te sluiten. In Xinjiang worden Oeigoeren en andere moslimgroepen op een ijzingwekkende manier onderdrukt. China pleegt er misdaden tegen de menselijkheid.   Teken de petitie

To: The President of the People’s Republic of China   Dear President Xi Jinping, I write to express my concerns about the 1 million or more people from predominantly Muslim ethnic groups estimated to have been arbitrarily detained in internment camps or prisons in Xinjiang since 2017. I am distressed to learn that the Chinese government has committed at least the crimes against humanity of imprisonment, torture and persecution in Xinjiang.  Family members living overseas are desperate to get in touch with their loved ones, many of whom they have not heard from in years. Further to their desperation is the fact that, without any access to a lawyer of their choice, the detained individuals are at even further risk of torture or ill-treatment. I therefore urge you to:  • Immediately release all people detained in internment camps and in prisons in Xinjiang, unless there is sufficient, credible and admissible evidence that they have committed an internationally recognized offence.  • Pending their release, disclose their whereabouts, allow them access to their family and a lawyer of their choice, and ensure they are not subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.
